One very popular choice is to use berry plants because of the multiple benefits they can add. Visually, the bright colors of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries can add excitement to any nursery. It’s natural to think of vibrant fruit and berries for spring and summer months, but winter berries will bring to your plants to life with the dimension of vivid red and white colors. Although the captivating visual appeal of berry plants is obvious and inspiring from a creative standpoint, they also bring many other health-related benefits, especially blueberries. Blue berry plants are incredibly popular because of their inviting aroma, sweet flavor, and ability to grow in a small space or containers. Best planted in early spring, they are easy to harvest and will continue producing with general maintenance pruning. One of the reasons they are so widely used is the medical advantages of the blueberries themselves.

Scientific research from the USDA and other well respected health organizations has shown that blueberries contain more antioxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. The antioxidants are exceptional at fighting and preventing diseases, including cancer, stroke, heart disease, and even urinary tract infections. Plus, blueberries are low in sodium and calories, and are a great source of fiber. This adds to their nutritional value because the pectin contained in the fiber actually lowers blood cholesterol levels.

An excellent example of a berry plant that is taking the gardening world by storm is the blueberry plant. Originally found in The Himalayas, Western China, Mongolia, and Tibet, blueberry berries are rapidly becoming a favorite in American nurseries for their medicinal purposes and attractive appearance. They are a red colored fruit and most commonly seen in plants or shrubs accompanied by smaller purple or blue flowers. Recently, goji berries have been labeled the “wonder berry” and are highly sought after. They have a high protein level and stimulate the body’s immune system with essential amino acids and minerals.

But these berries do more than just promote a longer life. Many studies find that goji can amazingly increase your spirit and optimism. Adding to their appeal, goji plants are not affected by droughts and make harvesting much simpler due to their independence and low maintenance requirements. In addition to all of the visual and medical benefits that berry plants can provide, they also have a variety of different culinary uses. Delicious berries can be used in pies, pancakes, jam, juice, and they can be frozen. Complementing meals in a healthy and tasty way is yet another reason to include berries in your plants this season.

And, you can also have a lot of fun learning about all of the different kinds of berry plants and their characteristics. Here are some fun facts to get you going: A blueberry will not ripen after it is picked, a strawberry is interestingly a member of the rose family that dates way back to 200 B.C., and they have more than 200 seeds! Whether your nursery or garden needs that extra flash of color, or you are enjoying the flavor, versatility, and positive nutrients they can offer, berry plants just might be the perfect addition. So choose the berries that are right for you and happy planting!

Vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fiber—the good guys in the food we eat. They make our bodies strong to help us fight disease and slow the natural aging process. So how do you know if you are getting enough of these food superheroes? Think color!

White

Bananas are well-known to be an excellent source of potassium. They are also high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, magnesium and manganese. One large banana contains 15% of the recommended daily allowance of fiber.

At just over 6 calories one-quarter cup of raw cauliflower provides almost 20% of the daily recommendation of vitamin C and is high in fiber. Cauliflower is also an important source of folate. A member of the cruciferous family of vegetables, it is recognized as possessing cancer-fighting properties.

Adding onions and garlic to your meals can boost calcium intake, and provide chromium, a trace mineral important in maintaining blood sugar levels. Regular consumption of onions and garlic has been shown to significantly lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

America’s favorite white vegetable, the potato, is an excellent source of vitamin C, potassium, Vitamin B6, niacin and thiamin. (Don’t think that makes it okay to pig-out on fast-food fries, or bury your baked potato under butter and sour cream! You know better.)
Yellow/Orange

Yellow fruits such as pineapple and papaya contain large amounts of both vitamin C and vitamin A giving a generous boost to your immune system. One half cup of pineapple delivers almost half the daily recommendation of manganese yet weighs in at only 40 calories.

Think yellow bell peppers for vitamin C. A one-half cup serving provides 300% the daily recommendation of vitamin C. That’s a lot of antioxidant power.

Most of us associate beta-carotene, one of the earliest identified anti-oxidants, with carrots. But you can also find beta-carotene in oranges, apricots, squash and other orange fruits and vegetables.

Not just candied yams at Thanksgiving anymore, sweet potatoes are an amazing package of vitamins and minerals as well as being high in fiber. One baked sweet potato with provide significant amounts of phosphorus, vitamin E, thiamin, iron, copper, magnesium, pantothenic acid, potassium, vitamin B6, manganese, vitamin C and vitamin A (over 1,000% RDA).
Green

Avocados have gotten a bad reputation as being high in fat. But they are also high in fiber, folate, potassium, pantothenic acid, vitamin C and vitamin B6.

Go green, like honeydew melons, green peas, spinach, and collards to supply important carotenoids that reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.

Also included in the green group of vegetables are broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage, which are, like cauliflower, cruciferous vegetables and contain powerful carcinogen blockers.

Red

Add tomatoes to your diet to provide lycopene, an antioxidant associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease. Surprisingly, cooked tomato products are richer in lycopene than uncooked tomatoes.

You can also get the benefits of lycopene from watermelon and pink grapefruit, plus vitamins A and C.

Don’t peel your apples! The skin of a Red Delicious is packed with two very powerful phytochemicals called epicatechin and procyanidin. Apples are also rich in pectin, a fiber that has a high capacity to absorb water and improve regularity.

Purple/Blue

Eat purple grapes or drink Concord grape juice to provide quercetin in your diet. Quercetin has been identified as an important phytochemical in the prevention of blood clots.

Blueberries, plums, purple cabbage, eggplant and purple onion provide another phytochemical group prevalent in purple food, anthocyanins. These anti-oxidant phytochemicals have been linked with preserved memory and brain function during the aging process.

Add color to your plate. Your eyes will enjoy the sight and your body will be receiving important nutrients vital for optimum health.

If your business depends on technological systems for its survival, the last thing you should be doing is suspending crucial development work that could give you the competitive edge. Or if you’re a newbie with a bright idea, holding fire on your dreams could mean someone else beats you to the punch by the time you decide to act. This article examines how business survival depends on evolution and those that decide to wait out the credit crunch could find themselves obsolete.

So your turnover is down, and your customers seem to be window-shopping rather than buying.

What can you do? Batten down the hatches and wait for the economic storm to pass? That might be your natural instinct, but the chances are that by the time you re-appear from your self-imposed exile, your competitive edge may have gone, and rather than re-emerging into a post credit-crunch world where economic recovery offers you fresh opportunities for business prosperity, you could find yourself obsolete.

Survival depends on evolution. Hold still and the world will pass you by.

That’s why if your business depends on technological systems for its survival, the last thing you should be doing is suspending crucial development work that could give you the competitive edge. Or if you’re a newbie with a bright idea, holding fire on your dreams could mean someone else beats you to the punch by the time you decide to act.

So how do you steer your company through an uncertain economic market to the safe shores of a brighter tomorrow?

Firstly, bear in mind that a tough economic market doesn’t stop innovation – on the contrary, history informs us that adversity fuels innovation.

If you’re an innovator, the chances are that the factors that came together to spark your bright idea in the first place may be there for others to draw the same conclusions from. Innovation very rarely happens in a vacuum and, referring to history again, it’s the first person to capitalise on an idea that wins (take, for example, the invention of the light bulb – Thomas Edison succeeded in making the first practical prototype, but he wasn’t the first, or the only person working on the light bulb).

However, without cash flow to grow your idea into something tangible, an idea is all it will remain.

With banks and lending institutions making it very difficult for companies to raise the capital necessary to undertake large custom software projects, it is perhaps understandable that some businesses may be tempted to put their software projects on hold until the market recovers – or to settle for an off-the-shelf substitute that ‘makes-do’ for now. As attractive as this may seem, the risk is that an off-the-shelf solution could ultimately hamper your business objectives if the system isn’t right for you, which could result in having to make business sacrifices later on.

It’s also worth remembering that a tough market can give customers a better hand than in times of plenty. As a potential client, you can negotiate more ‘bang for your buck’, so offsetting the cost of undertaking the project.

And if you do decide to go ahead, it’s important to keep control of your software development project. To do that, the solution is to outsource the work to a reliable software house with a good track record – but you need to be careful and do your research.

Big software houses can be expensive, as well as impersonal. Small software houses can lack resources or developer expertise. Look for a consultancy somewhere in the middle. Look at their website for contact information. Chances are that if the phone number is difficult to find, they’re not the best communicators, which could spell trouble ahead.

Spend some time getting your idea right. Make sure you know what you want your idea to do and what you expect from a software developer. If you’re clear on how you want the software to function, chances are so will the software developer.

Remember also that if you’re serious about developing your idea, it’s always a good idea to run it past a software consultancy before you embark on spending serious amounts of cash. A consultancy can assess the technical feasibility of your plans and provide that extra, independent analysis of the business risks associated with your idea, so that you can move forward with confidence. Some developers will provide free initial advice, so you can see what’s involved. You’d be surprised at how many ideas fall at this crucial first hurdle.

Choosing a custom software company

Before approaching a software development company, work out your exact requirements in the form of a basic analysis. This includes the requirements from an end user point of view and a rough design specification. Here’s what UK-based custom software company, Blueberry Consultants (http://www.bbconsult.co.uk) advises:

Research the Web for custom software development companies that have undertaken similar projects.

Check the consultancy’s technology expertise

Ask for client testimonials.

See if the software consultancy gives a free detailed quote based on the best spec you have.

Assess the costs involved and whether you can afford it.

Check that the project can be completed in the timeframe you want.

Make sure you get on with the people who will directly work on your project and that they have the necessary expertise to get the job done. This is easiest to assure in a medium-sized company that isn’t too large to be impersonal or too small to lack resources.

Top ten questions to ask your developer:

What is your policy on copyright?

Good Answer: The customer owns all copyright once the project is paid for. If the developer uses internal libraries, a royalty-free, perpetual, transferable licence is granted.

Bad Answer: The developer retains copyright and provides the customer with a licence to use the system.

Blueberry advises: If you are paying to have software written, the developer should hand over (assign) all copyrights in the system at the end of the project. A few disreputable companies try to get customers to sign a contract where they only pass over a licence to use the software. The developer is then legally entitled to ask for further fees in the future, even though the customer has paid for the development.

Will your system be built on top of any other platform or system?

Good Answer: No, the system will be all new code built with standard tools and libraries.

Bad Answer: The system will be built on top of our fantastic XYZ platform.

Blueberry advises: Some developers try to reduce costs by building systems on top of third-party or in-house ‘platforms’. The problem with such an approach is that it leads to problems with maintenance and licensing. The developer is unlikely to release source code to his wonderful platform, so if there is a serious problem it is difficult to get another company to take over. You should ensure that all source code to the whole system is available.

Will your system use or depend on third-party libraries or systems?

Good Answer: Yes, but we will ensure that you can buy licences to such systems, and these costs are clear.

Bad Answer: I’m not sure… maybe.

Blueberry advises: There are many powerful libraries available to developers, and these do save a lot of time. However, such libraries may be licensed to the developer, not to the end customer, and this either presents a future additional cost, or a maintenance issue. Similarly, the system may be designed to work with external systems like MS SQL Server, which have associated costs. The developer should make sure the customer understands all such costs.

Do you have source code control?

Good Answer: Yes. All code written by our developers is placed into a central source code control system, which is backed up off-site nightly.

Bad Answer: What is source code control?

Blueberry advises: When software is being written by a team, the team members need to share code between each other. A source-code control system makes this easy, and is a very standard tool. All professional developers should use source-code control. There is a possible argument that source code control is not required if the project only has one developer, but we would still recommend it be used, because it ensures that code is backed up to a central location. The source code should be backed up nightly to another location, otherwise there is always a risk that it might be lost.

Who collects requirements from the customer? Do they have development experience?

Good Answer: A senior manager with development expertise talks to the customer to understand their requirements.

Less Good Answer: Our salesperson talks to the customer first, and then brings in the development expert later.

Blueberry advises: Obtaining the correct requirements from the customer is absolutely crucial to the success of any project. Whilst the best salesperson may be trained to do this, our experience is that using a person with development expertise makes this process more reliable and far quicker, because it eliminates communication errors. Of course, the development expert must have the business and communication skills to build a rapport with the customer.

Do you have people who can help with System Deployment and Firewall Configuration?

Good Answer: Yes, we have an in-house systems administrator, who can help with any necessary firewall or other systems configuration.

Less Good Answer: Your IT department should do this, or we can maybe recommend someone.

Blueberry advises: The IT department in most companies usually has very competent people, but they are often extremely busy, which can result in unnecessary delays during deployment. The skills required to install a new system can involve multiple people within the IT department, e.g. one person to configure the firewall, another to work with the database. If the development company has in-house people to do this, it can save quite a lot of time.

How long have you been in business?

Good Answer: Ideally, at least three years. More is better, but are they up to date with new technologies?

Blueberry advises: Obviously, a company that has been in business longer is likely to be more stable than a new start-up. The first three years of any business are the toughest, so look more carefully at companies younger than this. However, there are disadvantages to older businesses, particularly in technology, as they might not be up to date.

How many developers do you have?

Good Answer: Ideally, at least 6, but not more than 30.

Blueberry advises: A company with less than 6 developers is likely to have tighter resource constraints than a larger firm. Development projects are often extended beyond their original deadline, and with a smaller company this can often mean that new projects cannot start on time. A smaller firm will also have less people to draw on to solve technical problems.

What languages do you use for programming?

Good Answer: C#, .NET, VB.NET, C++

Bad Answer: Visual Basic 6, Microsoft Access, Delphi

Blueberry advises: The right language for a project depends on the project requirements. However, Visual Basic 6 is no longer supported by Microsoft, and absolutely should not be used for new projects. Microsoft Access is very popular for workgroup systems, and is effective at this level, but it is not suited for larger projects. Code Gear’s Delphi – which was Borland Delphi – is a very strong tool, but it’s difficult to find people to update the code.

Do you use any form of logging in your software?

Good Answer: Yes, our software writes detailed logs.

Bad Answer: No, we rely on debugging the program before we give it to you.

Blueberry advises: All programs will have bugs – this is unfortunate, but true. Programmers have very powerful tools to help remove bugs, but these tools generally only work on the programmers own computer. This is unfortunately no help in solving bugs that happen on the customers’ computer. The best solution to this problem is to add code to the software so that it writes detailed logs on exactly what happens. When a problem occurs at the customers’ site, the program should send the log to the development team, who can then fix it. Unfortunately, writing logs takes extra effort, and many programmers don’t do this routinely.

No matter how much temptation and cajoling, we couldn’t get her to eat an Easter egg. At work, Easter is another excuse to eat chocolate and for most of us, we unfurl the Easter egg foil and easily chomp on some chocolate. But the office health nut instead munches on a carrot – about as close to the Easter bunny as they’ll get. But what if they ate too many carrots? Or too many bran muffins? They are actually damaging their body in a way they may not realise; believing advice they read or heard and perhaps taking that advice too far. Yes, it is possible to be too healthy. There is a way though to have a healthy diet – one based on knowing what is reliable advice, and knowing how to follow it.

—-What is too healthy? Why go to extremes? —-

A diet that is too healthy means eating only a limited selection of foods specifically for their purported health properties. The lady who refused the Easter egg may be one who thinks that she will live happy and healthy in a body free from ‘bad food’ – she may even snack continually on carrots for better eyesight. Obsessive behaviour is one reason why people may go to extremes in their healthy eating. Other reasons include a health scare (at risk for osteoporosis), or an excuse to overindulge (red wine and dark chocolate). Many healthy eating extremes are also triggered by the concept of health-crazing.

—What is health-crazing?—

The evidence of health-crazing can be seen on checkout conveyor belts; punnets of blueberries, cans of salmon, and boxes of green tea. ‘So what?’ you might say, ‘What is the difference between the familiar food pyramid and the blurb on a box of tea about the powers of antioxidants?’ Basically, health-crazing is when diet is focused on one food rather than a total approach to health through a balanced diet. Health-crazing isn’t necessarily bad unless it influences the fundamental balance of nutrients within the body.

—When health-crazing goes too far—

Even those of us who aren’t strict with everything in their diet may tend to favour one food. Over a period of about eight months, Suzie* ate three bran muffins each day, and a bowl of bran cereal for breakfast. Sure, she was ‘regular’ but then she was too regular, causing a rectal tear, pain and lethargy. Bran also reduces iron uptake; an explanation for her low haemoglobin level. The solution? She cut down on the bran, and increased so-called ‘stodge’ foods like fats. But what drives the craze that made Suzie fixate on bran? Or an office colleague gulp down their morning blueberry smoothie? The answer is money. Why else would someone steal an entire blueberry field in Canada after the health craze for blueberries reached fever pitch?

The recipe for the smoothie may have come from a women’s magazine, a TV show, or any number of advertisements that bombard us with the latest in food with properties to burn fat, give youth, and arouse libido. But how can you tell if this advice is even genuine?

—What is genuine advice?—

Remember our office colleague at the beginning of the article? Eventually we got her to eat the Easter egg – we used the magic words: ‘Scientists say it’s good for you’. But who are these scientists and can we believe them? There are ways to recognise whether advice used in heath-crazing is genuine.

The hallmarks of dubious advice include…

++ vague source of information – common phrases are mentioned, such as ‘scientists say’ or ‘it has been proven’. There is no reference to who the scientists are, and whether they are from public or private enterprise.

++the entertainment angle – current affairs shows are notorious for their thinly researched stories of magic water and fat loss foods as they know that these topics have sure-fire ratings.

++ marketing angle/money to be made. For example, advertorials about the benefits of high calcium intake from a company that just happens to sell calcium enriched milk.

Genuine advice is…

++ sourced from a thorough study – peer reviewed, trialled and the product/thoery is used over a period of time.

++ endorsed – if a government body also endorses scientific findings then this adds credibility to the discovery. But be wary of endorsement that sounds important but is really just a front for commercial organisations eg the ‘Tobacco Information Service’ run by the Tobacco Merchants Association.

++ able to be researched for yourself – look for a source, such as in a medical journal. Then go and read the full article. Look for how the study was conducted, how many participants, what was the error margin, etc.

Does all this reading and double-checking sound like a lot of effort? Who do we believe? Thankfully there is an answer to a truly healthy diet and it doesn’t involve hard work or sacrifice; it’s about getting the balance right.

The Recommended Daily Intake - RDI – is a proven scientific analysis of all the nutrients the body needs to function at optimal level. Each macronutrient (eg carbohydrate), vitamin (eg Vitamin C) and mineral (Eg Calcium) has a measurement that the body must intake each day, ranging from micrograms to grams. But how do you know if you’re meeting this level, or exceeding it?

Read the labels on the packaging, for example, a slice of typical wholemeal and grain bread has 7% of the RDI for iron. Be aware of which nutrients have an upper limit that must not be exceeded or else adverse health effects may arise. For example, any more than five carrots a day (Vitamin A Carotene) will cause skin to tinge orange. Fat soluble Vitamin A Retinol found in liver and fortified milk, in the short term can cause headaches and vomiting and in the longer term, hair loss and liver damage if consumed in greater quantities than 3000 milligrams a day, which is approx three times the RDI usually caused by exceeding dosages in vitamin supplements.

Being too healthy can be harmful to your health unless you follow genuine advice within scope of the RDI. The key to a truly healthy diet is balance; never ever eat too much of one thing, and allow some indulgences like Easter eggs. After all, the Easter bunny eats carrots, but he eats chocolate too.

If you wanted a great tasting but very delicious healthy fruit, then nothing can beat the taste and feel of eating blueberries. The rich deep bluish purple color and the delightful sweetness on its own make it a favorite to most kids and adults all the time. We usually use them to top our ice creams, garnish our cakes and even to serve as a simple dessert to everyone. But all these things will be a total failure if they are not sweet and juicy like what we always wanted it to be. So, if you happen to own a blueberry garden how can you make those delightful fruits sweet and very juicy? Bear with these simple yet very effective tips and tricks shared by Safe Fertilizer Reviews to make those angel fruits a heaping source of income!

Soil – the primary thing that you need to consider to grow high quality blueberries is quality the soil. Blueberries need acidic soil that can be maintained for years to further develop its natural sweetness and juiciness. A pH of 4.5-5.5 is very much accepted when growing blueberries. But what if your soil is not acidic enough? How can you make your soil acidic? Take a look at these tips below.

You can use a mixture of acid peat and garden soil to make your loam slightly acidic needed for your blueberries. But take note that you need to do it six months prior to planting your seeds, you cannot simply put some mixture then plant your seeds right away.

You can also try to add one pound of sulfur compound every 100 square feet. This helps your soil to keep its acidity level right for your blueberries.

Finally you can mulch your soil with pine bark, pine straw or sawdust. This is primarily done to maintain its moisture and acid content perfect for your blueberries.

Planting – you also need to consider the right time for planting blueberries which is normally anywhere in between early spring to spring. Remember not to put your seeds to close with each other because it will only end up to imbalance sharing of vitamins and nutrients. Position them four to six feet far from each other and make sure that you cover them enough soil to develop its roots perfectly.

Fertilize – doing the above things are sure fire tips to make your blueberries healthy and strong but for you to keep their immune system fairly tough, adding some fertilizer can do this trick. A fertilizer composition of 10-10-10 will be good enough as well as using high nitrogen content fertilizers. High nitrogen fertilizers makes your soil ready for decomposing that can turn dry leaves into a great source of nutrients.

Discover Bazi-a new health drink

Discover why Bazi is your path to health, with the unmatched antioxidant superpower of eight of the world’s most powerful “Super Fruits,” and your path to wealth as a home business…Visit

So what differentiates the health drink supplement Bazi from the rest of the field of health supplements?

Quite simply: It’s the jujube fruit.

<br />

The Jujube fruit has been shown to strengthen the immune system, provide a calm energy, and help the digestive, neurological and muscular functions. It is a potent antioxidant rich in vitamin c and other vitamins and minerals. The Jujube fruit contains an abundance of Betulinic acid which is exciting modern science by a growing body of evidence for its role in killing cancerous cells and in slowing the progression of HIV. The Jujube fruit has one of the highest concentrations of cGMP and cAMP which are messenger molecules. They carry important signals at the cell level. Every physical and mental action requires the transmission of these signals. The Ancient Chinese learned about these unique properties over thousands of years ago.

To enhance the properties of this health elixir XELR8 has added seven other exotic fruits and berries. These are the goji berry, the mangosteen fruit, the acai berry, the seabuckthorn berry, blueberry, the pomegranate and the raspberry. .

The Goji berry is derived from 18 amino acids, 21 trace minerals and complex polysaccharides which have been shown to strengthen the immune system.

The Mangosteen fruit contains a specialized class of antioxidants called xanthones, which are highly biologically active. They help the body defend against stress and cellular destruction.

The Acai Tree is located in the Amazon rainforest and has berries that are loaded with antioxidants, anthocyanins, amino acids, omegas, fibers and protein.

The Seabuckthorn berry contains 190 bioactive components. It is a great source of Vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, unsaturated fatty acids, essential amino acids, and flavanoids..

Blueberries are packed with antioxidant phytonutrients called anthocyanidins and are one of the most potent neutralizers of damaging free radicals.

The pomegranate is also rich in polyphelonols which have been linked by science to playing a role in cardiovascular health, cancer and even aging.

The raspberry is packed full of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. It is also high in ellagic Acid -a powerful anti-carcinogenic compound.

Blueberries are one of the most heart healthy fruit available. Who would have ever thought that something so delicious can be so good for you? Just one cup of blueberries each day (whether they are fresh, frozen, or dried) can have a major impact upon your health.

Blueberries are very rich in antioxidants. The antioxidants in this particular fruit reduce the buildup of “bad” LDL cholesterol. This “bad” LDL cholesterol if left untreated can contribute to cardiovascular disease and stroke. Compared to 40 other fruit and vegetables, blueberries rank number in antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity is very important because it can help neutralize harmful byproducts of metabolism, called free radical. These free radicals can eventually lead to cancer and other age related diseases. By consuming blueberries we slow down or prevent the damage that is caused by these free radicals. The beneficial antioxidant that is found in blueberries is called Anthocyanin. This particular compound can also be found in blackberries, black raspberries, black currants, and red grapes; however, the highest level is found in blueberries.

Adding blueberries into your daily diet is easy. You can buy them fresh, frozen or dried. Of course fresh fruit always offers the highest number of nutrients since no processing was required. When purchasing dried blueberries, try to purchase some that were not processed or chemically treated; usually the best place to go is the greenery or other organic food shop. You can add this dried fruit into your morning cereal or oatmeal. If you chose to purchase frozen blueberries, all you have to do is defrost them and add them to your favorite yogurt or eat them plain. There are countless ways to add more blueberries into your diet and with all of their health benefits who wouldn’t want to!

In modern times drink mixes are under redesign. Customary fruits such as strawberries, bananas, and peaches are no longer the only ingredients used in these vita mixes. More and more nature aficionados are moving to off-island grown or at least different fruits to shake their smoothie concoctions.

A favorite choice of fruits often used is the Mangosteen. This queen of fruits is not available for sale in the United States. This is because of the added risk of the Mediterranean fruit fly infestation upon its importing. However, fruit enthusiasts are able to obtain the byproduct of this fruit in juice or capsule form. Mangosteen is a tropical fruit from Indonesia. It’s about the size of a small apple and contains a delicious white core that breaks off in wedges similar to an orange.

Mangosteen clinical reviews go on and there is recommendation that this fruit is full of many ingredients that are health promoting. Food Scientists believe it has anti-fatigue, anti-swelling, mood enhancing, and cancer-fighting uses.

One research review suggests positive fight against leukemia:

“We examined the effects of six xanthones from the pericarps of mangosteen, Garcinia mangostana, on the cell growth inhibition of human leukemia cell line HL60. All xanthones displayed growth inhibitory effects. Among them, alpha-mangosteen showed complete inhibition at 10 microM through the induction of apoptosis.”(Matsumoto K, Akao Y, Kobayashi E, Ohguchi K, Ito T, Tanaka T, Iinuma M, Nozawa Y: Gifu International Institute of Biotechnology, 1-1 Naka-Fudogaoka, Kakamigahara, August 2003)

Found in India and the Tahitian Islands, the fruit of the Noni tree has powerful antioxidant properties, mood-enhancing uses, and immune system enhancing properties. Something else exciting applied used in smoothies is the Noni. Scientists suggest it is a cancer-fighting agent as well. This tropical comes from Southeast Asia as well. Scientists suggest it is a cancer-fighting agent as well.

In the NCCAM Publication D298 of 2007, scientists have published a clinical study wherein Noni (Morinda Citrufolia) has demonstrated high antioxidant levels, as a result immune system enhancement, and evidence that it may battle cancerous sells. Tumors in rats have dramatically decreased in size when exposed to Noni.

Acai Berry, a juicy delight is the size of a grape and a dark reddish-blue color. It contains fiber and is believed to have the properties to free the body of toxins. Clinical studies into this berry’s uses show it is also best for improving the circulatory system, promoting physical wellbeing and minimizing inflammations. The Acai berry, conquering the world from Central and South American tropical regions is another fruit smoothie drinkers’ blend.

Blueberries also have properties to inhibit chronic diseases. Rich with Vitamin C and E, Blueberries are another good choice to mix in. They also contain anthocyanins and phenolics, which are great antioxidants. The above fruity riches are alternatives one can use to come up with their own individually preferred creation. These are medicinal that one can use in combination with blueberries.

A vital mix of tropical goodness enchanted with far-east-Asian or South American exotics, can improve a new lifestyle with health and wellness. Any ingredients you desire today, be it tropical or exotic, wild or tame, you can get it online or off-line. Blueberries are easily attainable, the other fruits and berries are not so easy to obtain. Some of the fruits can be found in processed juice or powder form, which can be added into one’s smoothie beverage.

The enhanced body-lift coming from vita-fruit mixes rich with free radical eliminators are reason enough for trying them. Exotic energizing fruits aid greatly in giving people a sense of vitality that enable them to be more productive throughout the day. When a person feels energized, they feel they can take on the world. This leads to a better mental attitude, which can halt depression in its tracks. A vibrant positive personality learns to reject negative and destructive thought, or at least minimize its effects. This results in better performance in all aspects of ones life.

Ultimately, foods with Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) rating are best to add-in with your smoothies. ORAC will help you build up your immune system and through antioxidants in these foods, berries, vegetables, or fruits; it will help you feel well. These mixes of ORAC-rich ingredients are also pretty tasty.

Do you smoothie? If you are like most people, in the rush to get everyone out of the house in the morning, you forget what an easy, tasty and nutritious breakfast smoothies can be. Smoothies are the fastest way to whip up a couple of servings of fruit with a healthy dose of fiber and protein, getting your day off to a great start.

Smoothies are wonderful because they satisfy your sweet tooth, but are packed full of good things your body needs. In the morning, your body is in a fasting state. Eating breakfast is the best way to jump start your metabolism and keep your body running in high gear all day long.

Smoothies are easy to make. All you really need is a blender and a banana. From these humble beginnings, you can add any fruit, juice, yogurt, milk or frozen delicacy you want. Protein powder is a good addition for an extra boost of protein. Packing around 23 grams of protein per scoop, adding protein powder to your smoothie helps to build muscles, burn fat and keep you full until lunchtime or beyond. Protein powder can be found in the supplement section of your grocery store. Look for vanilla or unflavored protein powder, they mix well with many fruit flavors. Protein powder is also available in the bulk section of many natural food stores.

Bananas are really essential to ensure a nice smoothie. They lend a creamy, substantial taste that turns a smoothie into a meal, instead of just a collection of pureed fruit. Bananas that are too ripe to eat fresh can be tossed into the freezer, peel and all. The peels will turn black, but the insides are perfect for smoothies. Simply cut off the peel with a knife and break your banana into chucks, before tossing it into the blender. Same banana taste and texture, no more wasted bananas.

Here are some Smoothie combinations that you might enjoy:

Fresh peaches, banana, vanilla yogurt, milk and frozen blueberries.

Lemon yogurt, frozen blueberries, poppy seeds, milk and banana

Pineapple, coconut, banana, orange juice, ice cubes and Pina colada yogurt

Apples, cinnamon, banana, vanilla yogurt and milk

Frozen or fresh raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, banana, ice cubes and blueberry yogurt

Strawberries, kiwi, banana, vanilla yogurt and milk

To assemble your smoothie, toss all of your ingredients into the blender with a scoop of protein powder, pulse until smooth and enjoy!
